Temple Destruction, Birth Pains, and Endurance
As Jesus leaves the temple, he predicts that its magnificent stones will be thrown down. On the Mount of Olives the disciples ask about timing and sign, and Jesus begins with warnings: deception, wars, famines, earthquakes, persecution, apostasy, false prophets, lawlessness, endurance, and worldwide kingdom proclamation.
Where this fits in the story: prophetic “day of the LORD” language often combines historical judgment with patterns that reach toward final judgment.
Where Scripture takes it next: Matthew’s discourse moves from Jerusalem-focused warnings into cosmic Son-of-Man imagery and repeated calls to watchfulness.
