Choose Life
Deuteronomy 30:15–20 is the movement “Choose Life.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil;” It closes with: “That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.”
Within the book’s larger story, this section advances several important biblical threads. Death, Life, and Resurrection: Life and death, blessing and curse, are set before Israel; choosing the LORD is choosing life.
