Angelic Guarding—and Scripture in the Temptation
Psalm 91:11–12 is quoted by the tempter in Matthew 4:6 and Luke 4:10–11. That fact makes this passage an unusually important lesson in biblical interpretation: a verse can be quoted accurately at the level of wording and still be used wrongly when its purpose is distorted. Jesus refuses to force God to prove His protection. Verse 13 also contributes to later biblical victory-over-evil imagery, but the temptation quotations are the clearest direct New Testament reuse.
