Joash Turns to Idolatry
2 Chronicles 24:15–22 forms the movement “Joash Turns to Idolatry.” After Jehoiada died at the age of 130, the officials of Judah came and paid homage to Joash, leading him away from the temple of the Lord to worship Asherah poles and idols. Because of this idolatry, God’s wrath came upon Judah. Prophets were sent to bring them back to the Lord, but they would not listen. Then the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah son of Jehoiada, who rebuked them for forsaking the Lord. But at the command of Joash, they conspired against Zechariah and stoned him to death in the temple courtyard. This tragic reversal shows how quickly hearts can turn from faithfulness to apostasy.
