The Great Banquet: Excuses, Open Seats, and a Full House
A dinner guest blesses whoever will eat bread in God’s kingdom. Jesus answers with a banquet story in which invited guests make excuses, so the host fills the house with people from streets and lanes and then reaches farther still.
Where this fits in the story: prophetic banquet imagery and Luke’s recurring concern with poor and excluded people meet in a warning to those who assume invitation equals participation.
The story is not anti-Israel shorthand; it confronts refusal of God’s invitation and celebrates the host’s determination that the house be filled.
