The Finger of God and the Stronger One
After an exorcism, opponents accuse Jesus of using Beelzebub’s power. Jesus replies that a divided kingdom cannot stand, describes a stronger man overcoming an armed strong man, and says that if he casts out demons “with the finger of God,” the kingdom of God has come upon them.
Where this fits in the story: “finger of God” directly recalls Exodus language for unmistakable divine power. Luke therefore lets the exorcism controversy echo the confrontation in Egypt: God’s reign exposes and defeats enslaving powers.
