Living Sacrifice, Renewed Mind, One Body with Many Gifts
“Therefore” turns Romans from extended gospel argument toward embodied response. In view of God’s mercies, believers are to present their bodies as a living, holy sacrifice. Levitical burnt-offering language forms a meaningful backdrop to whole-life consecration, although Paul does not identify a particular Levitical offering as the direct source.
Worship now includes refusing conformity to the age and being transformed by the renewing of the mind. Humility follows: believers should not think of themselves more highly than they ought, because the church is one body with many members and differing gifts. Prophecy, service, teaching, exhortation, giving, leadership, and mercy are all to operate according to grace rather than status competition.
