Christ Redeems from the Curse
This paragraph is a dense chain of Scripture. Paul draws on Deuteronomy 27:26, Habakkuk 2:4, Leviticus 18:5, and Deuteronomy 21:23 to contrast life by faith with reliance on law and to explain the cross as redemption from the law’s curse. Christ becomes “a curse for us” so that Abraham’s blessing might reach the Gentiles and the promised Spirit might be received through faith. The cross, Torah, Abrahamic blessing, and the Spirit all meet in a single argument.
