Worship in the Place God Chooses
Deuteronomy 12:1–14 is the movement “Worship in the Place God Chooses.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “These are the statutes and judgments, which ye shall observe to do in the land, which the LORD God of thy fathers giveth thee to possess it, all the days that ye live upon the earth.” It closes with: “But in the place which the LORD shall choose in one of thy tribes, there thou shalt offer thy burnt offerings, and there thou shalt do all that I command thee.”
Within the book’s larger story, this section advances several important biblical threads. God Dwelling with Humanity: The place the LORD chooses concentrates sacrificial worship around His dwelling and name.
