Pray for the Word to Run—and Trust the Faithful Lord
Paul asks this pressured church to pray outwardly: that the word of the Lord may “run” and be glorified elsewhere just as it was among them. Mission and persecution are happening at the same time.
He asks for deliverance from unreasonable and wicked people, then contrasts human faithlessness with the faithfulness of the Lord. The closing section directs confidence toward the Lord rather than ideal circumstances.
Aha: the Thessalonians are not merely recipients of apostolic prayer. Paul recruits them into mission by asking them to pray for the gospel’s advance.
