Jesus Revealed from Heaven: Relief, Judgment, and Glory
Paul answers persecution with a future reversal. God’s righteous judgment will vindicate the afflicted, give them rest, and judge persistent opposition when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.
Israel’s Scriptures repeatedly describe the Day of the LORD as the time when God appears in majesty to judge arrogance and rescue his people. Paul places Jesus at the center of that final scene. Isaiah’s language about fleeing “from the presence of the LORD” and “the glory of his majesty” is especially important for 2 Thessalonians 1:9.
