Saul’s Desperation
Start here: The Philistines gathered at Shunem, and Saul assembled his forces at Gilboa. Seeing the size of the enemy, Saul was afraid. He inquired of the Lord, but God did not answer him by dreams, Urim, or prophets. In his desperation, Saul told his attendants to find a woman who was a medium, despite having previously banned such practices in obedience to the law. They found one at Endor, and Saul disguised himself to visit her by night.
Canonical window: The final movement brings the kingdom transition to its crisis. David survives exile and the destruction of Ziklag by seeking the LORD, while Saul reaches the end of legitimate guidance and dies on Gilboa. The book closes at the threshold of David’s reign. The connection cards below show the specific Scripture links and how strongly each one is supported. This overview does not turn every similarity into a prophecy or type.
