The Son of Man and Spiritual Sight
Jesus finds the expelled man and leads him from physical sight to confession and worship. The scene then becomes a judgment saying: Jesus’ coming exposes those who admit blindness and those who claim sight. The Pharisees ask whether they are blind too, and Jesus answers that claimed sight leaves their sin in place. The chapter therefore ends where it began—with blindness—but now the primary issue is response to revelation. The sign is not a license to stigmatize disability; physical healing becomes the narrative doorway to a moral contrast about recognizing Jesus.
