The LORD Purges False Security and Idolatry
The future kingdom does not become secure merely because Israel has stronger defenses. The LORD promises to remove horses, chariots, cities, fortresses, witchcraft, soothsayers, carved images, standing stones, and Asherah-related objects. The list attacks competing forms of trust—military, magical, political, and religious.
This is easy to misread. The problem is not that every horse, city wall, or human skill is intrinsically evil. Prophets repeatedly condemn the conversion of created means into ultimate security and the use of practices that rival dependence on the LORD. The removal language portrays a purified people whose confidence is no longer distributed among God and a shelf of substitutes.
