The Proud Prince of Tyre Claims to Be a God
The ruler of Tyre has become proud through wealth and wisdom and says, in effect, “I am a god.” Ezekiel answers by stressing his mortality: no commercial brilliance can turn a human ruler into deity, and foreigners will expose the gap between self-exaltation and creaturely limits.
Ezekiel’s ruler of Tyre boasts “I am a god” and occupies a divine seat; Paul’s opponent takes a seat in God’s temple and presents himself as God.
