The Seated Priest and the Finality of the New-Covenant Sacrifice
A priest stands daily performing repeated sacrifices that can never finally remove sins. Christ, after offering one sacrifice for sins forever, sits at God’s right hand and waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. Psalm 110:1 and Jeremiah 31 meet here: enthronement and the new covenant explain why his offering does not need repetition. The Holy Spirit’s Jeremiah quotation ends with God remembering sins and lawless deeds no more. Hebrews draws the conclusion: where these are forgiven, there is no further offering for sin. The finality belongs to Christ’s sacrifice, not to human spiritual perfection.
