Remember the Judgments—and Do Not Presume
Jude now reaches backward through earlier Bible history. He reminds readers about the people God rescued from Egypt who later fell through unbelief, angels who abandoned the place God had assigned them, and Sodom and Gomorrah. His point is simple but serious: a past experience of God’s favor does not make later rebellion harmless.
Where this fits in the Bible: Numbers 14 explains the wilderness judgment Jude summarizes. Genesis 19 supplies the Sodom story. Zechariah 3 contains the striking words “The LORD rebuke thee,” which Jude echoes in the story of Michael and the devil. Daniel also identifies Michael as an important heavenly figure connected with God’s people.
