The Sealed Servants and the 144,000
Revelation 7:1–8 pauses the judgment sequence to show servants of God sealed before further harm comes to the earth. The number 144,000 is arranged as twelve thousand from each of twelve tribes, but the list itself is unusual: Judah is first, Levi is included, Dan is omitted, and Joseph and Manasseh both appear. Those features make the identity of the group an important interpretive question. A literal Israelite remnant is one serious reading; a symbolic picture of the whole people of God is another. The passage itself clearly emphasizes divine ownership and protection, while details such as the claim that the 144,000 must be male end-times evangelists go beyond what these verses actually say.
