The Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles
Deuteronomy 16:9–17 is the movement “The Festival of Weeks and the Festival of Tabernacles.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “Seven weeks shalt thou number unto thee: begin to number the seven weeks from such time as thou beginnest to put the sickle to the corn.” It closes with: “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.”
The immediate task here is to understand the covenant instruction in its own setting before asking whether later Scripture develops the same theme. No later connection should be forced merely to make the section look fuller.
