Babylon’s Sins Reach to Heaven
Revelation 18:4–8 calls God’s people, “Come out of her, my people,” so they do not share Babylon’s sins or plagues. The command echoes prophetic calls to leave doomed Babylon while functioning morally as a summons to reject her idolatry, luxury, and injustice. Her self-glorifying claim of security is answered by sudden divine judgment.
Revelation 18:5 says Babylon’s sins have reached unto heaven and God has remembered her iniquities. The image recalls biblical stories in which accumulated human rebellion rises before God for judgment, including Babel’s heaven-reaching ambition and prophetic charges against Babylon. Revelation stresses that apparent delay does not mean divine forgetfulness.
Revelation’s Babylon has sins reaching “unto heaven,” reversing Babel’s attempt to build upward and make a human name. The shared heaven-reaching imagery turns self-exalting civilization into a canonical pattern that ends under divine judgment.
