The Temple Vessels Come Home from Babylon
Nebuchadnezzar had stripped the Jerusalem temple and carried its vessels to Babylon. Cyrus now reverses that humiliation by ordering the sacred objects returned. Mithredath the treasurer counts them out to Sheshbazzar, “the prince of Judah,” who is responsible for taking them back with the exiles.
Why this matters: the vessels are not magic objects. Their return signals that the exile’s desecration is being reversed and that temple worship is being reconstituted. The movement is Babylon → Jerusalem, plunder → restoration, absence → renewed worship.
