A Different Priesthood and a Better Hope
If the Levitical priesthood had brought the intended completion, there would be no need for Psalm 110 to announce another priest after Melchizedek’s order. A changed priesthood entails a changed legal arrangement governing priesthood, and Jesus comes from Judah, a tribe Moses did not appoint to altar service. His priesthood therefore rests not on a genealogical regulation but on the power of an indestructible life, confirmed by Psalm 110:4. Hebrews contrasts the law’s inability to bring final perfection with the introduction of a better hope through which believers draw near to God. The point is fulfilled access, not contempt for the Torah that prepared the categories.
