Uzziah’s Pride and Sin
2 Chronicles 26:16–21 forms the movement “Uzziah’s Pride and Sin.” But when Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar, a duty reserved only for priests. Azariah the priest and eighty other courageous priests confronted him, warning that he had been unfaithful. Uzziah became angry, and as he raged at the priests, leprosy broke out on his forehead. He was hurried out of the temple, and he himself was eager to leave because the Lord had afflicted him. Uzziah remained a leper until his death, living in isolation while his son Jotham governed the people. This account reveals the danger of pride and of overstepping God’s boundaries.
