The Son of David and Son of the Most High Announced

Six months later, the angel Gabriel appeared again— not in the temple, but in a small home in Nazareth. He greeted a young virgin named Mary, who was betrothed to Joseph of the house of David.

The wider biblical story comes into focus here. Gabriel’s promise of David’s throne, kingship over Jacob, and an endless kingdom develops the Davidic covenant’s promise of an enduring royal house and throne. Luke begins with Gabriel declaring that nothing will be impossible with God and later has Jesus say what is impossible with humans is possible with God. The Greek adynat- word family strengthens the internal echo and links impossible birth with impossible salvation accomplished by divine power. The Septuagint uses the same Greek verb family for the cloud 'overshadowing' the tabernacle that Luke uses for the power of the Most High overshadowing Mary. This supports a divine-presence/tabernacle echo; a full 'Mary is the Ark' reading is a broader typological inference, not an explicit statement.
