Jehoram Seizes the Throne and Breaks Faith
2 Chronicles 21:1–7 forms the movement “Jehoram Seizes the Throne and Breaks Faith.” Jehoram succeeds Jehoshaphat and kills his brothers and other leaders to secure the throne. He walks in the ways of Ahab's house and does evil, yet the LORD does not destroy David's dynasty because of His covenant promise to give David a continuing lamp. Human royal failure and divine covenant fidelity stand side by side.
In the book’s larger argument, Jehoram’s violent reign shows how far a Davidic king can fall while the Davidic promise itself remains intact; covenant fidelity belongs to God, not to the worthiness of every king.
