Where Can I Flee from Your Presence?
Heaven, Sheol, dawn, distant sea, and darkness cannot remove the worshiper from God’s presence. Even the darkest place is light to the LORD. The imagery teaches divine omnipresence and inescapable knowledge, not merely emotional comfort, though comfort is one appropriate pastoral consequence.
Psalm 139 celebrates that no heaven, grave, sea, or darkness can escape God’s presence; Amos uses the same inescapable divine reach as judgment—dig to Sheol, climb to heaven, hide on Carmel, or descend to the sea, and the LORD still reaches there.
