The Horsemen Among the Myrtle Trees: The LORD Has Not Forgotten Zion
Three months later Zechariah sees a rider among myrtle trees with other colored horses behind him. The riders have patrolled the earth and report that the nations are at rest. That sounds peaceful, but from Jerusalem it creates a painful question: if the empire is quiet, why does Zion still look wounded? The angel of the LORD intercedes, asking how long compassion will be withheld. God answers with ‘good words and comfortable words’: he is jealous for Jerusalem, angry with complacent nations, and intends his house and city to be rebuilt.
Where this fits in the story: exile seemed to suggest that God had abandoned Zion. The vision says the opposite. The LORD sees the whole earth, hears intercession, and has not forgotten his covenant purposes.
