Once, in Heaven Itself: Christ Appears for Sin and Will Appear Again
Earthly copies were cleansed with earthly rites, but Christ entered heaven itself to appear before God for believers. He does not repeatedly offer himself as the high priest repeatedly enters the holy place; his sacrifice belongs to the decisive climax of the ages. Humans die once and face judgment; correspondingly Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many and will appear a second time, not to deal with sin again but to bring salvation to those waiting for him. The passage joins Day-of-Atonement imagery, once-for-all atonement, heavenly presence, judgment, and second-coming hope.
