Do Not Trust Oppression or Riches: Power Belongs to God
Human status is weighed as lighter than vanity, and wealth is explicitly denied the right to possess the heart. Power belongs to God, but so does mercy, and God renders to each person according to work.
The New Testament repeats both warnings about riches and accountability before God. Christian theology must hold the verse’s judgment language together with grace rather than pretending one cancels the other. The psalm attacks misplaced trust and grounds ethical seriousness in God’s character.
