The King Who Goes Away, Returns, and Calls His Servants to Account
Because people think the kingdom of God will appear immediately as Jesus nears Jerusalem, he tells of a nobleman who goes to receive a kingdom and later returns to call servants to account. Faithful stewardship during the king’s absence matters.
Where this fits in the story: Luke directly addresses the tension between kingdom arrival and delayed consummation. Jesus is approaching Jerusalem, but the public fullness of royal rule will not unfold according to the crowd’s immediate timetable.
