Kings Flee, Gifts Are Received, and God Ascends on High
Psalm 68 moves through victory, scattered kings, holy mountain imagery, chariots, Sinai, and finally the declaration: “Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men.” In the psalm, the ascending victor is the LORD.
Ephesians 4:8 explicitly quotes this verse and applies the ascent-and-gifts pattern to Christ. That makes this one of Psalms’ important LORD-to-Christ texts. Paul’s wording says Christ “gave gifts unto men,” while the Hebrew psalm speaks of receiving gifts. This is not a detail to conceal: it is precisely the kind of interpretive evidence Plus and Deep should explain, including ancient textual/interpretive traditions and the psalm’s wider victory context.
