Repairing the Temple
After the first collection system fails, Joash establishes accountable funding so skilled workers can repair the temple. Joash begins well under Jehoiada and successfully reforms the temple-repair system, but his reign is not the final answer to failed kingship. The chapter’s ending with tribute, conspiracy, and assassination keeps the reader looking beyond even a promising Davidic king.
Second Kings 12 and 2 Chronicles 24 preserve parallel accounts of Joash’s temple-repair program, including collection of funds and restoration work. Reading them together clarifies administrative details and differing emphases without forcing the accounts into identical wording or treating one as correction of the other.
