The King Enters Jerusalem on a Donkey
Jesus deliberately enters Jerusalem in a way Matthew interprets through Zechariah: Zion’s king comes humble and mounted on a donkey. The crowd answers with Psalm 118 language—“Hosanna” and “Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord”—while the city asks who he is.
Where this fits in the story: Zechariah 9 joins humble kingship with peace and worldwide rule; Psalm 118 belongs to the festival praise tradition and celebrates the rejected-yet-vindicated one entering through the gates.
Where Scripture takes it next: Jesus immediately enters the temple, placing royal arrival and temple judgment side by side.
