1 Kings 1:32–40
In 1 Kings 1:32–53, the narrative focuses on solomon crowned king. This belongs to Solomon’s rise: David’s succession crisis gives way to the new king’s consolidation, request for wisdom, administration, and early prosperity. Read the section with an eye on the difference between God-given kingship and human ambition, and on the standards by which Solomon’s reign will later be measured.
Solomon’s public coronation procession—David’s son riding the royal mule, accompanied by priest and prophet, acclaimed by the people, and moving up toward the throne—forms a probable Solomonic royal foreshadowing/mirroring pattern for Jesus’ triumphal entry as the Son of David. Matthew’s explicit controlling texts are Zechariah 9:9 and Psalm 118, so this 1 Kings relationship is a substantial typological echo rather than a direct quotation.
