Anointing Oil and Sacred Incense – Set Apart by Scent and Spirit
The chapter concludes with instructions for making two sacred substances: the holy anointing oil and the incense blend. These were not just practical recipes; they were heavenly formulas, given by God with exact ingredients and measurements. The oil was to anoint the tabernacle, the furnishings, the altar, the priests—everything and everyone involved in the worship of God. The incense, carefully blended, was to be burned before the Lord as a symbol of reverence, worship, and prayer.
God made it clear: these mixtures were not for common use. Anyone who replicated the scent for personal enjoyment would be cut off from the people. Why? Because these fragrances marked what was holy. They distinguished the sacred from the profane. To smell the anointing oil or the incense was to enter into the presence of God. These were the signature scents of heaven’s house.
