The Table and the Lampstand – Sustenance and Light in the Presence of God
After giving instructions for the Ark of the Covenant, God turned His attention to two other sacred furnishings for the tabernacle: the table for the Bread of the Presence and the golden lampstand. These objects would reside just outside the Holy of Holies, in the Holy Place, continuing the theme of God’s desire to be among His people. The table was to be made of acacia wood overlaid with gold and placed on the north side of the Holy Place. On it would be the “Bread of the Presence”—twelve loaves, representing the twelve tribes of Israel, constantly before the Lord. This bread was not for God’s consumption but served as a powerful symbol of His provision and fellowship. Every Sabbath, the priests would eat the bread in God’s presence, signifying that communion with God was not just for the few—it was His intent for the whole nation.
