Into the Cloud – Moses Enters the Glory of God

God now calls Moses even higher. While the leaders remained below, only Moses is summoned to ascend into the thick cloud resting on Mount Sinai. God tells him, “Come up to Me on the mountain and stay here, and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commandments I have written for their instruction.” Moses leaves the elders with instructions and entrusts Aaron and Hur to lead while he is away.

For six days, the cloud covers the mountain, and Moses waits. On the seventh day, God calls to him from within the cloud, and Moses enters into it. To the Israelites watching from below, the glory of the LORD looks like a consuming fire atop the mountain. Yet Moses, unburned and unafraid, walks into that fire and remains on the mountain for forty days and forty nights.
