Amalek Attacks – Victory Through Intercession
Without warning, the Amalekites attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. This unprovoked assault became the first recorded military conflict for the new nation. But this battle would not be won by strength or numbers. It would be won by intercession and obedience.
Moses told Joshua to choose men and go fight, while he himself would go to the top of the hill with the staff of God in his hand. As long as Moses held up his hands, Israel prevailed. But when he lowered them, Amalek gained the upper hand. So Aaron and Hur came alongside Moses, supporting his hands on either side, holding them steady until the sun went down.
