Manna and Quail – The Pattern of Daily Dependence
That evening, quail came and covered the camp, and in the morning, thin flakes like frost appeared on the desert floor. The people asked, “What is it?”—which in Hebrew sounds like man hu, from which we get the word manna. Moses explained that this was the bread God had promised.
Each family gathered as much as they needed—an omer per person. Some gathered more, some less, but when they measured it, no one had too much or too little. Those who tried to hoard it found it spoiled and full of maggots by morning. But when they gathered double on the sixth day in obedience to God’s command, it remained fresh through the Sabbath.
