Israel Repeats the No-Part-in-David Slogan
In 1 Kings 12:16–24, the narrative focuses on the division of the kingdom. This belongs to the divided-kingdom story. Political fracture becomes religious fracture as rival worship, dynastic violence, prophetic warnings, and repeated royal evaluations show how the northern and southern kingdoms respond to the LORD after Solomon.
The northern tribes later repeat Sheba’s revolt slogan—“What portion have we in David?”—when they break from Rehoboam. The close verbal repetition turns 2 Samuel 20 into a major canonical precursor to the permanent kingdom division narrated in 1 Kings 12.
