Sheba Calls Israel Away from David
Sheba son of Bichri exploits the tribal quarrel and calls Israel to abandon David. The men of Israel follow him while Judah remains with the king.
The northern tribes later repeat Sheba’s revolt slogan—“What portion have we in David?”—when they break from Rehoboam. The close verbal repetition turns 2 Samuel 20 into a major canonical precursor to the permanent kingdom division narrated in 1 Kings 12.
