Genesis 3 ends Adam’s judgment with a return to dust. Romans 5 explains the larger meaning of Adam’s disobedience: sin enters the world through one man, and death follows sin. Paul turns the Genesis event into a theological explanation of why death reigns—and then contrasts Adam with Christ.

First Corinthians 15 places Adam and Christ side by side. Through a man came death; through a man also comes resurrection. “In Adam all die,” Paul says, but “in Christ shall all be made alive.” The mortality introduced in Genesis becomes the backdrop for the Christian hope of resurrection.

Genesis 3 reverses Genesis 1’s blessed human vocation: the ground is cursed, work becomes painful, and humanity returns to dust.

Genesis 3 says the ground is cursed because of Adam. Revelation 22 describes the final restoration with the opposite announcement: there will be no more curse. The two passages frame the Bible’s story from fallen creation to restored creation.

Genesis 2 says the human was formed from the dust of the ground. After the Fall, Genesis 3 turns that origin into a sentence of mortality: the man will return to the ground because “dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.”

When Lamech names Noah, he hopes this child will bring relief from the painful work caused by “the ground which the LORD hath cursed.” That wording deliberately reaches back to Adam’s judgment in Genesis 3 and shows the curse still shaping life generations later.

Genesis 3 describes a world in which the ground is cursed, work becomes painful, and death enters the human story. Romans 8 later widens the lens: creation itself is subjected to frustration and bondage to corruption and now “groans” while waiting for liberation. Paul does not quote Genesis 3, but the Fall provides a strong biblical backdrop for the creation-wide brokenness he describes.
