Barzillai’s Loyal Service Is Honored
The aged Barzillai escorts David across the Jordan but declines life at court. David instead receives Chimham and promises to honor Barzillai’s wishes.
David’s final charge to Solomon explicitly remembers Barzillai’s loyalty during Absalom’s revolt and commands kindness toward Barzillai’s sons. The later instruction therefore reaches directly back to 2 Samuel 19 and shows that covenant-like gratitude for loyal service remains active across the transition to Solomon.
