Shimei Curses the Fugitive King
Shimei of Saul’s family curses David and throws stones at him, interpreting David’s fall as judgment for Saul’s blood. David refuses Abishai’s offer to kill Shimei and leaves room for the possibility that God may use even this humiliation. This forms a probable narrative mirror of Jesus stopping Peter’s sword while accepting his arrest; the contrast matters because David is suffering within the consequences of his own sin, while Jesus is sinless.
