Psalms 114:3–5
Psalm 114 poetically retells the exodus: Judah becomes God’s sanctuary, and sea, Jordan, and mountains respond to his presence. Later Christian baptismal and deliverance theology can receive the exodus typologically, but the psalm itself celebrates Israel’s historical redemption.
Creation is summoned to tremble before the Lord who turns rock into water. The ending intensifies the psalm’s theology of divine presence: nature yields before Israel’s God. NT miracle stories may resonate with that authority, but there is no direct NT quotation here.
Psalm 114 poetically joins the sea’s flight with the Jordan turning back, giving later inspired testimony that Israel’s Jordan crossing belonged to the same divine-deliverance memory as the Exodus sea crossing.
