The Song Appointed as a Witness
Deuteronomy 31:14–30 is the movement “The Song Appointed as a Witness.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tabernacle of the congregation, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tabernacle of the congregation.” It closes with: “And Moses spake in the ears of all the congregation of Israel the words of this song, until they were ended.”
