The Tent of Meeting at Shiloh
Joshua 18 describes the setting up of the Tent of Meeting at Shiloh, the surveying of the remaining land, and the allotment to Benjamin. Shiloh becomes the central sanctuary while the remaining tribal territories are assigned.
First Samuel continues the Shiloh sanctuary story by naming it as the place where Israel goes to worship and sacrifice, showing the tabernacle center established in Joshua persisting into the pre-monarchic period.
Psalm 78 later remembers God abandoning the tabernacle at Shiloh, turning Joshua’s sanctuary center into a sobering example that sacred location cannot shield an unfaithful people from judgment.
Jeremiah explicitly directs Judah to Shiloh as historical proof that a place once associated with YHWH’s name and sanctuary can still fall under judgment when the people persist in disobedience.
