The Territory of Ephraim
Joshua 16 describes the inheritance of Joseph’s descendants, especially Ephraim, and ends with the important note that the Canaanites of Gezer were not driven out.
Ephraim and Manasseh’s territorial distinction continues the census structure that already treats Joseph’s descendants as two tribal groups. Joshua’s land map turns the tribal distinction already visible in the census into concrete inheritance geography within Joseph’s descendants.
