Laws Concerning Marriage and Sexual Purity
Deuteronomy 22:13–30 is the movement “Laws Concerning Marriage and Sexual Purity.” Read it inside Moses’ final covenant instruction to Israel on the eastern side of the Jordan as the people prepare for life in the land. The section opens with: “If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,” It closes with: “A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor discover his father’s skirt.”
Scripture also places this passage inside a wider canonical network. Paul closes the discipline case with the Deuteronomic formula 'put away from among yourselves that wicked person,' echoing a refrain repeated throughout Deuteronomy.
