The Son and the Angels: Royal Sonship and Worship
The first chain of Scripture begins with two royal-son texts and then asks what God ever said to an angel that compares with what he says to the Son. Psalm 2:7 and 2 Samuel 7:14 belong first to the Bible’s royal and Davidic setting; Hebrews applies their sonship language to Jesus at the highest level. Verse 6 then commands the heavenly beings to worship him. The exact Old Testament textual source behind that line is important because the wording matches the Greek-scriptural tradition especially closely. Hebrews is not decorating an argument with isolated prooftexts. It is reading Israel’s royal hope and heavenly worship language together to identify the Son as uniquely exalted.
